Ukraine accuses Russia of war crimes
Ukrainian authorities have launched an investigation into possible war crimes against Russia after finding hundreds of bodies scattered on the streets of cities near Kiev.
Some of the bodies were handcuffed and shot at close range, Reuters reported.
The bodies were found in several small towns in Kiev after Russian forces withdrew. Russian troops have reportedly withdrawn from these cities to intensify attacks on other parts of Ukraine.
Reuters reporters found the body of a man lying on the side of the road in the town of Bucha, 36 kilometers northwest of the center of the Ukrainian capital Kiev, with his hands tied behind his back and shot in the head.
Butcher Deputy Mayor Taras Shapravsky said they had found 300 bodies after Russian forces withdrew from the city earlier this week, 50 of whom had been extrajudicially killed by Russian forces.
However, Reuters could not independently verify how many bodies were found and who was responsible for their deaths.
Russia's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that all photos and videos released by Ukrainian authorities alleging "crimes" by Russian troops in Bucharest were "persuasive" and that no Bucharest residents had been subjected to violence at the hands of Russian troops.
The United Arab Emirates sent a plane carrying more than 30 tons of medical and relief supplies to Ukraine, the state news agency WAM said on Sunday.
This is the third plane sent by the UAE to Ukraine, in response to the international humanitarian appeal to support Ukrainians and those displaced in Ukraine, WAM said.
The UAE, along with several other Arab countries, have not publicly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but chose to vote in favor of last month’s UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russian aggression.
Anwar Gargash, adviser to the UAE president, said last month that taking sides "would only lead to more violence." The UAE's priority is "to encourage all parties to resort to diplomatic action and to negotiate to find a political solution," he said.
